Kenneth Greenawald Obituary

Kenneth Adam Greenawald, MD, PhD, of Harbor Springs, Michigan, passed away on Sunday, June 14.

Born in Reading, PA in 1936, Ken was the son of Paul B. Greenawald and Helen (Adam) Greenawald of South Temple.

The youngest of four children, Ken is survived by his brother Henry. He was predeceased by his sister Emily Shalter and brother Ralph.

Ken was married to Ann (McKnight) Greenawald for 60 years. Their family includes their daughter Kristyn, their son Doug, and eight grandchildren.

Ken graduated from Muhlenberg Township High School and Albright College, in Reading. He went to Thomas Jefferson Medical School in Philadelphia and then to a residency in pathology at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.  Following two years of service at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX, he returned to Henry Ford Hospital, where he was Chief of Pathology until his retirement.

In retirement, Ken pursued his lifelong passion for golf and enjoyed a wealth of literature as well as his participation in the Birchwood Book Club. He thoroughly enjoyed long walks with his dogs in the woods and fields of Northern Michigan. Before retirement, Ken was also very much at home in a fishing boat on Lake Oneida in NY.

Ken was a warm, witty, and loving man who leaves behind many wonderful memories for those who knew him.

Those wishing to make a charitable donation in Ken’s memory are asked by family to consider Leader Dogs for the Blind, his favorite charity at 1039 S. Rochester Rd., Rochester Hills, MI 48307 , or one of your choosing.
