Kenneth Francis Kowalski of Indian River, passed away in Gaylord on Friday, May 15, 2020. Kenneth was born in Detroit, the son of Eugene and Jane (Swierkowski) Kowalski on June, 17, 1951. He grew up in Detroit and Ortonville, graduating from Cashmir High School and later earning an Associates of Arts degree at Henry Ford College. He spent the last 30 years in Indian River.
Kenneth worked for many years as a security guard for the Odawa Casino. He was a longstanding member of the Boyscouts, loved canoeing, camping, fishing, gardening, and other outdoor activities. He was famous for his apple pies.
Kenneth is preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Shaun Smith.
Kenneth leaves behind four children, Nikkayla Kowalski, Nathan Kowalski, Angela Smith, and Ashley (Ethan) Smith-Esogbue, two grandchildren Christopher Smith and Joey Vieau, a brother, Eugene, two sisters, Donna (John) Smith and Debra (Ronald) Lademan, nephews Matthew(Stephanie) Smith and Daniel(Samantha) Lademan and their son, Zackary, and niece, Rebecca(Michael) Lademan, great niece Ashlyn Smith, and his ex-wife and lifelong friend Ellen Everingham.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
