Kenneth Reedy Obituary

Kenneth Frank Reedy, 70, of Harbor Springs, died March 19, 2021 at his home with family by his side.

Ken was born August 1, 1950 in Detroit, the son of Ralph and Helen (Stamper) Reedy. He graduated from Redford High School and attended Rets Electronics Trade School in Detroit for further training.

After a few years Ken reconnected with a high school friend, Nancy Trate. There was instant chemistry, and they were married on August 14, 1976. Nancy and Ken moved to Petoskey, where he worked for DTE as a construction coordinator. They grew their family with the addition of their two daughters, Andrea, and Melissa. In 2012, Ken retired from DTE after 35 years of dedicated service and hard work. He bought property and built a home in Readmond Township, north of Harbor Springs, where he loved to spend time outside, cross country skiing, biking the trails, camping, and riding his motorcycle. In the fall, it was Detroit Lions season at Ken’s house. He was a devout fan all his life, even though his family joked that the stress of being a Lion’s fan was not good for his health!

Ken’s greatest passion was the guitar. He was extremely talented at both the bass and acoustic guitar. He played in many bar bands over the years with other local musicians. The friendships that were created through music will never be forgotten.

He will always be remembered for his easy-going nature, he quick wit and his “Reedy-isms”, those little made up words and phrases he would use that somehow always managed to accurately describe the situation or person he was referring to. He was one of a kind.

Ken is survived by his wife of 44 years, Nancy Reedy of Harbor Springs; his daughters, Andrea (James) Hacker of Harbor Springs and Melissa (Josh) Kingsbury of Petoskey; his grandchildren, Autumn and Parker Hacker; his mother, Helen Reedy of Dallas, Texas; sisters, DeAnna Storm of Dallas, Texas, and Debra (Edward) Meads of Jackson, Michigan; nephew, Tony Granger of Detroit, Michigan and niece, Tammy Ross of Dallas, Texas.

He is preceded in death by his father, Ralph Reedy; his brother-in-law, Michael Storm, Sr. and by his nephew, Michael Storm, Jr.

There will be a graveside service at Greenwood Cemetery in Petoskey, on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Rusty Chatfield will officiate.

Friends and family wishing to make a charitable donation in memory of Ken are asked to consider the Little Traverse Bay Humane Society or the Little Traverse Conservatory.
