Peacefully and surrounded by his family, Leonard Jerome Barrette passed away on September 11, 2021 at the age of 94 years.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 72 years, Lucy Barrette. He will be missed by his children: Sandy Borowicz (Harold) Cheboygan, Denny Barrette (Betsy) Cheboygan, Barbara Gabriel (Jim) Arcadia, OH, Lenny Barrette (Rose Mary) Cheboygan, and JoAnn Schmidt (Raj) Taylor, TX. His sisters: Esther Robidou, Jeanette Robidou, Marion Rivard, and brother, Jim Barrette (Laura).
He was proud of his 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He will be missed by numerous extended family members and friends throughout the Cheboygan and Mullett Lake communities.
Leonard was born on July 24, 1927 to Napoleon and Henrietta Barrette in Cheboygan Michigan and grew up with 10 brothers and sisters. At a young age, Leonard helped to care for his siblings and was always known to help anyone in need.
He served in the US Army and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Leonard will always be remembered for building homes and maintaining cottages in Mullett Lake Village, which was his career for over 50 years. If anyone needed help they were told to “call Leonard”. His favorite past time was watching the Detroit Tigers play ball and having a house filled with his family and friends sharing stories.
A visitation will be held at Nordman Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 15, from 2:00-4:00 pm and 6:00-8:00 pm. A one hour visitation will also take place at St Mary’s Catholic Church on Thursday, September 16th followed by the funeral at 12:00 pm. A graveside service will be held immediately after the funeral at the Maple Grove Cemetery. A celebration of life will continue at the Mullett Lake Country Club.
