Linda Dawn (nee Ten Have) VanTreese

After a long illness, Linda Van Treese (nee Ten Have), 73, of Petoskey, MI, passed away peacefully on April 17th, Easter Sunday, with her children at her side. Calling hours will be held at Stone Funeral Home on Friday, April 29th, from 6-8 pm. Her memorial service will be officiated by Rev. David Behling at the United Methodist Church in Petoskey on Saturday, April 30th, at 11 am. Celebrants are invited to gather beginning at 10.

Linda grew up in Hudsonville, MI, and graduated from Western Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in education. On June 17, 1970, she married the love of her life, Jerry Robert Van Treese, of Boyne Falls, MI, who precedes her in death. She counted moments with her family as her happiest memories, particularly time spent relaxing on Walloon Lake or traveling with her children.

Linda taught United States History, U.S. Government, and Psychology for 33 years at Petoskey High School. She was deeply committed to teaching and is remembered for her generosity, perceptiveness, and kindness. Linda was attuned to her students’ needs and always offered compassion, support, a warm smile, and Vitamin C drops or lifesavers.

She is survived by her mother, Elaine Ten Have, her sisters, Kathy Wyngarden and Mary Ten Have, her brother Bill, her children, Rob (Sarah) Van Treese, and Kate (Jen) Silverman-Van Treese, and her two grandsons, whom she adored. She was a beloved aunt, cherished friend and mentor to many. Memorial donations may be directed to the Women’s Resource Center of Petoskey or Char-Em United Way, and condolences to Stone Funeral Home.
