Lisa Schroeder Obituary

Lisa Kathleen (Wnuk) Schroeder, 47, died March 30, 2021 at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital after a battle with breast cancer.

She was born on October 26, 1973, the daughter of Michael Wnuk and Elizabeth “Beth” (Powers) Alpers.  Lisa attended catholic school and graduated from Traverse City Senior High. She graduated from the University of Michigan with a bachelor’s degree and became a Registered Nurse, specializing in pacemakers. Over the years, Lisa worked at St. Jude’s Medical, McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital and most recently at Bayside Family Medicine in Petoskey. She was extremely hardworking and generous, which made her the perfect nurse and caregiver.

Lisa was married to Will Kleehammer and together they had a son, Chase. She later married Doug Schroeder and added two beautiful daughters, Summer and Madison to her family. On April 30, 2016, she went on her first date with Dan Gerard. Lisa and Dan were inseparable from that moment and loved spending every day of the last 5 years together.

If you knew Lisa, you knew she had a sparkle in her eye. She was adventurous, charismatic, and fun. She went skydiving, took horseback riding lessons, and enjoyed traveling to Florida to visit family. She would send birthday cards with envelopes stuffed with glitter and could make you feel her joyful energy even when you were far apart. She loved gardening and grew the most beautiful flowers and spent countless hours collecting special rocks and stones to add to her garden.

She was an animal lover all her life and recently adopted a dog, Clare. She quickly became Lisa’s #1 snuggle buddy and was spoiled rotten.

Lisa is survived by her three children, Chase Kleehammer, Summer Schroeder and Madison Schroeder; her mother, Beth Alpers of Florida; her sister, Erin (Dan Inman) Stephens of Thompsonville, Michigan; the love of her life, Dan Gerard of Petoskey; aunts, Patricia (Glen) Hensley, Gail Powers-Schaub and Dona (Terry) Hudson; uncle Bob Allen; close friend, Dawn Bayliss; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her father, Michael Wnuk; grandmother, Edna Powers; and by her aunt, Ellie Allen.

There will be a visitation at Stone Funeral Home on Friday, April 2, 2021 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The family is putting together a GoFundMe which will benefit Lisa's daughters, Summer and Madison. This information will be updated as soon as it becomes available.
