Lora Geneva (Green) Jones

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Lora Geneva (Green) Jones, 85, of Romeo, Columbiaville, and Petoskey, Michigan, on Wednesday, February 26, 2025.

Lora was born on October 19, 1939, to Audra (Hailey) and Hubert Green in Mammoth Springs, Arkansas.  After moving to Pontiac, Michigan as a teen she graduated from Pontiac High School.  She worked in banking for several years before meeting the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Lindon Jones. 

Bob and Lora were married on August 14, 1965, in Pontiac, MI. They enjoyed a beautiful life together for 55 years.  They moved to a beautiful apple orchard in Romeo, Michigan shortly after the birth of their third child.  Lora’s creativity flourished in the love of her flower and vegetable gardens, and she was the hub of their family apple business. During their happiest retirement years they built a home in Columbiaville, Michigan in 2000 which was quickly known as Grandma and Papa's place. They joyfully hosted countless gatherings and their famous family hayrides, giving their family so many cherished memories.

Lora poured her heart into raising her three children, and then her twelve grandchildren.  She was a woman of immense faith, strength, grace, and dedication to her family. She was the heart of her home and created a warm, loving environment rooted in the love of Christ.  She treasured her relationships at the Romeo Church of Christ, Rochester Church of Christ, and the Lapeer Church of Christ, where she was an active member. She will always be remembered for her selflessness, nurturing spirit, and quiet strength.

Lora is survived by her children: Julie (Ron) Edwards of Hennco, VA, Rebecca (Lance) Bailey of Petoskey, MI and Brian Jones of Petoskey, MI; grandchildren: Kaleigh (Edwards) Melby, Jessica (Edwards) Beaverson, Katherine (Edwards) Anderson, Jillian Edwards, Joelle Edwards, Faith Bailey, Alison Bailey, Luke Bailey, Sarah Bailey, Megan Jones, Lauren (Jones) Morris and Nathan Jones; great grandchildren: Ellianna Tosto, and soon Owen Melby who will join the family in April 2025.  Lora was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Jones, her sister (“Sis” to Lora) Barbara O’Rourke, brother Jerry Green, and parents Hubert and Audra Green.

A funeral service will be held 4:00 pm Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Petoskey Church of Christ with a visitation from 3:00 pm until the time of service.  Burial will take place at a later date at Meadowlawn Cemetery in Columbiaville, MI.

In lieu of flowers, Lora requested people to send donations to the Schultz-Lewis Children’s Home at PO Box 471 Valparaiso, Indiana 46348.
