Lorraine B. (Burgess) Washburne

Lorraine Washburne, 94 passed away Tuesday September 1, 2020 at her residence at Independence Village in Petoskey, Michigan.

Born August 22, 1926, in Petoskey, Lorraine, was a life long Petoskey resident. She was the daughter of the late Lynn and Pearl (Hathaway) Burgess.

She was a 1943 graduate of Petoskey High School; shortly after graduation she began a career as a secretary-office manager that spanned over 70 years.

Lorraine, was an avid member of the Michigan Chapter of the Business and Professional Women’s Association, serving a term as State President. She was also served as a secretary/treasurer of the First Christian Church of Petoskey for many years.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her first husband, Howard Crouterfield, her second husband, A.T. Washburne and earlier this year, by her daughter Lynda Pettit.

Also preceding her in death were her three brothers, Leon (Frieda) Burgess, Leonard (Shirley) Burgess, Gerald Burgess, brothers-in-law, Kenneth Mendenhall and Jim Walz.

Surviving Lorraine are her sisters, Norma Mendenhall, Grace Walz, and son-in-law Ben Pettit, along with eleven nieces and nephews.

The family extends a very special thank you to Lorraine’s neighbor and dear friend, Karen Verkerke, for her care and compassion that she provided in Lorraine’s final years.

A visitation for Lorraine will be from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on September 9, 2020 at Stone Funeral Home. A graveside service at Greenwood Cemetery will begin at 1:30 PM. Lorraine's daughter, Linda Pettit, will be honored and buried between Lorraine and Howard on September 9, 2020 also.
