Lucille "Lucy" Grenzke Obituary

Lucille “Lucy” Robinson Grenzke of Harbor Springs and Grosse Pointe Shores, Michigan departed this life surrounded by family on October 3, 2020.  She was 101 years old.

Lucille was born to Fred and Inez Robinson on August 27, 1919 in Detroit, Michigan in the midst of the influenza pandemic.  On May 22, 1941, Lucille married George R. Grenzke and together they made their home in Detroit.  In the mid 1950’s, George and Lucy moved to Grosse Pointe Shores and both became very involved in both their community and their church.

Lucille is remembered as a woman of great talent and many accomplishments.  She was the President of the Michigan State Hospital Auxiliary, on behalf of which she traveled throughout the state delivering speeches and meeting with hospital auxiliaries in the upper and lower peninsulas.  As President of the Grosse Pointe Garden Club she shared her love of flowers and gardening with the Grosse Pointe Community, and worked tirelessly to nurture her beloved plants.  She was an accomplished speaker, seamstress, gardener, and artist.  Her many paintings are cherished by her family, and all who have seen them.  She was gifted in both her social graces and many leadership roles.

When Lucille moved to Harbor Springs in 2013 she became “Lucy” to all who knew her.  She embraced being an “Up North Girl” and started a new life at the age of 93.  Lucy was an incredible woman with a sparkle in her eye and a quiet strength about her, and she was always ready for a new adventure.

She is survived by her three children: sons Gary (Deb) Grenzke of Loveland, Colorado, Richard (Bea) Grenzke of Grosse Pointe Farms and daughter Beverly (Jim) Osetek of Harbor Springs; as well as 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.  She is also survived by her brother Jack Robinson and many nieces and nephews.

Lucy is preceded in death by her husband George, her brother Robert, and her parents.

Above all else, Lucy’s greatest love was her family, who will remember her always, and always with a smile.  Her departure from this world was a reflection of her life: peaceful and full of dignity and grace.

Private family services will be held.
