Lucille “Rose” Dunkel, born on May 20, 1933, in Waugh, Canada, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was the daughter of Steve Kovach and Catherine Mirkovich. She was also lovingly raised by her adopted parents, Oscar Beauchamp and Katherine Kowsth. Lucille became a legal American citizen on June 21, 1960, a milestone she held with great pride.
Rose was united in marriage to her devoted husband, Donald Dunkel, with whom she built a life centered on family and love. Donald preceded her in death on October 10, 1992. Together, they raised a wonderful family who will continue to carry on her legacy.
Rose found her greatest happiness in the kitchen, where she expressed her love through cooking. Whether preparing everyday meals or hosting special family gatherings, she created not just food, but love. Her home was always a place of warmth, comfort, and togetherness. She also worked as a cook at Resort School, where she took great pride in doing what she loved, and later served as a secretary at Mathei Veneer Mill.
She will be remembered for her kindness, her strong family values, and the deep love she had for those around her. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she shared a strong and enduring bond through it. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
She is lovingly remembered by her children: Ronald (Linda) Dunkel, Carol Kopenkoskey, the late Daniel (Linda Webb) Dunkel, and Richard (Alice) Dunkel. She also leaves behind many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense pride and joy. She is preceded in death by her husband Donald; and son Daniel.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Rose’s life at Zion Lutheran Church on April 18, 2026. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. lead by Pastor Matthew Peters. A luncheon will immediately follow.
