Lucius Munger Obituary

Lucius John Munger, 83, of Cheboygan passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2022 at his home. Lu was born April 27, 1939 in Saginaw, Ml, the son of Lucius and Wanda Munger of Saginaw. He graduated from Saginaw Arthur Hill High School in 1956, earned a Bachelor of Science from Michigan State University in 1960, a Master of Arts from Central Michigan University in 1963, and an Educational Specialist degree in 1977.

On December 26, 1971 Lu married Frances Ford of Des Plaines, IL. The couple were married at St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Des Plaines. Lu and Fran established their home in Constantine, Ml where Lu became principal of East Elementary. While in Constantine, their two children, James Russell in 1974, and Margaret (Greta) Elizabeth in 1976.

The Munger family then moved to Cheboygan in 1977 where Frances became a teacher consultant for the deaf at the Cheboygan Otsego Presque Isle Intermediate School District, and Lu as a teacher and administrator for Cheboygan Public Schools. Lu retired from Cheboygan Public Schools in 1996, but continued to be active in the Cheboygan community through the Kiwanis Club, and St. Paul's United Methodist Church. In dedication to the students of the Cheboygan Community, Lu established the Cheboygan Legacy Scholarship fund to help area students further their education.

Survivors included son James (Stacie), and granddaughter Elizabeth Munger of Sierra Vista, AZ, daughter Margaret Greta Munger of Kalamazoo, Ml; niece Elizabeth (Doug) Engle of Austin, TX, niece Marsha (Scott) Lehr of Park Ridge, IL, niece Lisa (John) Neuman of Chicago, IL, nephew Michael (Erika) Humbert of Chandler, AZ, nephew Mark (Kelly) Munger of Westport, MA, niece Lauren (Tyler) Baxter of Sparks, NV, nephew Phillip (Kelly) Ford of Sparks, NV nephew Craig (Jocelyn) Munger of Franklin, NH, niece Sara Munger of South Dartmouth, MA, niece Lisa (Jeff) Pierce of Rifle, Co, nephew Luke (Mandy) Munger of Cheboygan, nephew Kurt (Lee Swan) Munger of New York City, NY, niece Lee Ann Munger of Breckenride, Ml,and niece Christa ( Brenden) Marek of Louisville, CO and many other beloved grand nieces and nephews. Lu was preceded in death by his wife Frances, brothers Jim, Don, and Ed, and his parents, Luke and Wanda.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Cheboygan Legacy Scholarship Fund held at Straits Area Community Foundation, PO Box 495, Alpena, Ml 49707, or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

The Nordman-Christain Funeral Home of Cheboygan cared for the family.
