Marcia J. (Newsome) LaHaie, age 87, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2026, at McLaren in Petoskey, Michigan.
She was born in Levering, Michigan, the daughter of Ken Newsome and Florence Robertson. Her family moved to Cheboygan when Marcia was a young girl. On July 14, 1956, she married John A. LaHaie, her soulmate. They enjoyed a happy life together for 61 years and raised six children together.
Marcia enjoyed spending time with family and friends, thrift shopping, reading, camping, traveling, and doing volunteer work. She invented what she fondly called “Fudgie Days”. These were day trips around the area with her grandchildren, enjoying local tourist attractions. These trips created precious memories. She was a member of the Munro Helping Hands and TOPS. While her own children were growing up, Marcia babysat for neighboring families. Later working at St. Julian’s Winery in Mackinaw City for several years.
She is survived by her siblings Pat Gaynor and Bob Newsome; her children, Laura (Terry) Whitmore, Linda (Mike) Johnson, Cindy (Rod) Rumohr, Ken (Eleanor) LaHaie, Sandy LaHaie, and Steve (Christine) LaHaie; grandchildren, TJ Whitmore, Ben Whitmore, Sarah (Phil) Smage, Courtney (Ben Veling) Johnson, Seth Johnson, Jon (Kelly) Rumohr, Jordan (Rachel) Rumohr, JoAnna (Adam) Voth, Megan (Phil) Nichols, Nicole LaHaie, Kendra (Adam Vondra) LaHaie, and Taylor Elliot. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Finn Smage, Eleanor Veling, Mason Veling, Adelyn Rumohr, Amelia Rumohr, Noah Rumohr, Sadie Nichols, and Marlie Nichols.
Marcia is preceded in death by her husband, John; her sisters, Maribeth Duffiney, and Nancy Kennedy; sisters-in-law, Kathleen Greenless, Elaine Ostwald, and Mary Newsome; brothers-in-law, Roy Duffiney, Leonard Gaynor, Rolland LaHaie, Gerald LaHaie, Fred LaHaie, Nick LaHaie, and Ron LaHaie; and her granddaughter Alicia Rumohr.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, March 12, 2026, at St. Paul United Methodist Church. Visitation will begin at 10:00am with a service to follow at 11:00am, Reverend Kristen Coristine will be officiating. A luncheon will be held at the church following services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, the Salvation Army, or an organization of your choice.
