Obituary

Margaret Ann Heckman, age 98, of Indian River passed away on July 24, 2022, at Medilodge of Cheboygan. Margaret was born on January 22, 1924 in Ann Arbor, Michigan to Roland and Doris (Stilson) Fletcher.  Margaret married John Heckman in February of 1948.

Margaret is remembered for her love of spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, reading scripture, and bringing the family together for the best family meals.  Margaret loved living at their house on little Gallagher Lake in Whitmore Lake, Michigan before moving north to Indian River, Michigan in 1990. There, she enjoyed walks on their property with John and watching the wildlife around her, unless of course that included snakes. Margaret was known for her love of chocolate and was a loyal fan of University of Michigan football.

Margaret is survived by her son, David Heckman, of Indian River; Grandchildren Christopher Heckman of Petoskey, Jennifer (Ryan) Hunt of Levering, and Daniel (Kerry) Heckman of Indian River; Great-grandchildren Drew Heckman, Kathryn Heckman, Margaret Heckman (and their mother, Rebecca Heckman) and Raija Hunt.

Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, Roland and Doris Fletcher, her husband John Heckman, her Sister Leola (Bill) Collings, and daughter-in-law Jenise Heckman.

The family will be having a graveside service for Margaret on August 9th at Kohler Township Cemetery.
