Margaret A. (Corey) Heikkila

Margaret A. (Corey) Heikkila, 96 of Petoskey, Michigan passed away on August 7, 2020 at her daughter’s home in Harbor Springs, Michigan.

Daughter of Marshall E. Corey, Sr. and Orpha I. (Beemer) Corey, Margaret grew up in Walloon Lake, Michigan. She lived in the log homes, which her family built, across from Pied Piper where she learned how to dance on roller skates. She graduated from Petoskey High School in 1943.

On January 21, 1946 she married Wallace R. Zaiger in Petoskey. Years later she remarried William Heikkila from the U.P.

Margaret did many things throughout her life. She was a co-owner of The Doll House, a children’s clothing store in Petoskey. She was an orthodontist assistant while living in Florida, worked in an optometry office in Oscoda and was in the retail clothing business in Petoskey and Harbor Springs.

She truly loved the Lord and taught Sunday school for many years in different locations where she resided.  

Margaret enjoyed skiing and golfing. She was living in Independence Village for the last six years where she liked to play Wii golf, Wii bowling, bingo and attended Church services.   

Margaret is survived by her daughters Connie (Zaiger) Collins and husband Patrick, and Linda (Zaiger) Coats and husband Jack; her grandchildren: Jim, Sandy, Mike, Jen and Matt, Jen; her great-grandchildren: Branden, Kristin, Jacob (Fiancé Lizzy Dufek), Kayla, McKenna, Kami, Emerson, Lauren, and Caroline; her great-great-grandchild Lila Rainn; and her several loving nieces and nephews.

Preceding Margaret in death are her parents Marshall E. Corey, Sr. and Orpha I. Corey; her brother Marshall “Mike” Corey, Jr.; and her grandson Kevin Coats.

At this time a private family service will occur at a later date.
