Margaret Massey Obituary

Margaret V. (Anderson) Massey passed away peacefully, at the age of 101, on November 12, 2022 at Medilodge in Cheboygan, Michigan with family by her side.

Margaret was born on June 6, 1921 to Edward and Violet (Romblom) Anderson on the family farm, which she has always been proud and blessed to call her home.  In 1944, Margaret married the love of her life, Staff Sargeant Donald W. Massey, who was in the United States Army.  Shortly after their nuptials, he shipped out to Europe during World War II, only to be killed in action on April 2, 1945, while trying to save another soldier.

Margaret became a young widow with a brave soul and moved on to live in Saginaw, Michigan, where she worked at Lufkin Rule Company.  She also worked at a hospital in Saginaw as a nurse's aide, taking care of newborn babies, which she loved.  In 1972, she moved back to Cheboygan and began working at Community Memorial Hospital, once again caring for babies until changing to the extended care unit and taking care of geriatric patients.  Margaret adored caring for others as she loved people and always had such a kind and giving heart.

Margaret has lost many loved ones who preceeded her in death, which include her husband Donald Massey, parents Edward and Violet Anderson, in-laws Ernest and Nan Massey, brother and sister-in-law Glenn and Muriel Anderson, brother-in-law Carroll "Dick" Wright, sister and brother-in-law Ruth and James Gundry, sister and brother-in-law Lillian and Donald Kihn, nephews Brian Wright and Glen Gundry and niece Barbara Gundry Branstner.

She is survived by her sister, Irene Wright, brother and sister-in-law Raymond and Beverly Anderson and several nieces and nephews who she has always considered "her children;" Margaret and Dick Griffin (Wendy, Steve and Kristi), Jane and Ken Grace (Jenifer, Melissa, Adam and Jordan), Ken and Sue Wright (Stephanie, Dan and Stacy), Penny Wright (Scott, Michelle and Haley), Karen and Dave Stowers (Amy, Becky and Jon), Marlene and Brent McCumons (Eric, Tami and Matt), Cheryl and Jim Elrod (Cari, Josh, James and Courtney), Brad and Debbie Anderson (Heather and Katie), Mark Anderson and Jan Ginter, Steve Anderson (Eric), Nancy and Dan Andruccioli (Tiffany, Alyssa, Rachael and Nicole), Jill Carson (Linda), Erin Culhane, Elyse and Elaina Branstner, Ginger Gundry (Kayla and Ro), Kevin Kihn (Harrison, Scarlett and Vivienne), and Diane Kihn-Jullette (Andrew, Aaron and Adam), along with many great-great and great-great-great nieces and nephews, all who loved Margaret so very much.

Margaret's memorial service will be Saturday, November 19, 2022.  Friends and family may gather at 10:00 am, with the service beginning at 11:00 at the Nordman-Christian Funeral Home, which is located at 302 Huron Street in Cheboygan.  Pastor Paul Bradford will be officiating.
