Margaret "Peg" Elaine (Sydow) Tripp

Margaret Elaine "Peg" Tripp (nee Sydow), passed away at age 91 on July 1, 2026, in Petoskey, Michigan. She is survived by her children, Becky (Mark) Boudreaux, Brian (Cindy) Tripp, Susan (Steve) Tanner and Robin (Mike) Decker. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Lesley (Herb) Boudreaux-Essien, Derek and Brett Tripp and their partners, Diana and Christina, Chad and Tatum Decker and her great-grandchildren, Gabriella Tripp and Tayo Essien. She is also survived by siblings Eleanor Clements, Gary Sydow and her special niece, Debra Clements, sister-in-law Sue Ann Rockwell, brothers-in-law Jerry Tripp and Phillip Reed. She is also survived by family friend Paul Mamarow, whose help was very much appreciated recently. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James W. Tripp, brothers-in-law, Blaine Clements and Aaron Rockwell, sisters-in-law, Carol Reed and Brenda Tripp.

Margaret, who everyone knew as "Peg", was born to Clyde and Helen (Steen) Sydow on July 7, 1934, in Petoskey, Michigan. She was raised and attended school in Littlefield Township (Alanson), Michigan, and was class president, graduating high school there in 1952. It was also where she met and subsequently married James W. Tripp, on October 24, 1953. The couple resided in Flint, before settling in Saline, Michigan, where they raised their family. Peg's many interests included baking, cake decorating, sewing, calligraphy and she was a Girl Scout Troop leader in Saline for several years. She was employed as a medical receptionist for decades both in Ann Arbor and in Flint, prior to moving to their retirement home in Carp Lake, Michigan. Before her final retirement she worked as a desk clerk at the Thunderbird Motel in Mackinaw City, Michigan. Peg was a people person and was happy to travel around the United States to visit family members and also enjoyed having many visitors at their lakefront home to play cards, cribbage or just to tell stories and catch-up on the latest news. She was a rabid fan of the University of Michigan sports teams due to her husband Jim, being a U of M retiree, and she followed the fortunes of the Wolverines with great interest. Especially enjoying their recent NCAA Basketball Championship run. She thoroughly enjoyed gambling at the casinos which she frequented, both in northern lower Michigan, in the U.P. and also in Las Vegas. Her good luck was legendary. She won often at slots and also was very proud to have won, not one, but two, brand new automobiles at two different casinos at different times.

She was a very generous soul who had great affection for her family and friends, and she will be missed by the many people whose lives she touched. Arrangements with Stone Funeral Home are still pending.
