Margaret “Peggy” Gokey, 82 of Bliss Township, passed peacefully, surrounded by family, on February 6, 2026, in the respectful and loving care of Munson Hospice House in Traverse City, Michigan.
Peggy was born on August 9, 1943, to Daylis and Marvel Bonter and lived in northern Michigan the entirety of her life.
She enjoyed her farm animals growing up, time at the beach and on the water, growing gladiolas, sewing and any chance to be with her large, loud family. Forever a diehard Pellston Hornet, she was a cheerleader and band member during her school years. As a parent, she supported all her children’s activities and sporting events during their school years. Feeding many of her ‘extra child athletes’ after school/before bus rides to events and eventually becoming a cheerleading coach for Pellston Schools was just another day in her life…as a Hornet and as a mom to many.
She is survived by daughter Kim (Bill) Melching, son Mike (Lynne) Gokey, daughter Julie (Gokey) Quandt; grandchildren George (Lexi) Whitley, Dylan (Brittany) Wernholm, Hunter (Kacie) Wernholm and Jared Quandt; brother Toady (Sharon) Bonter, brothers-in-law Robert (Marie) Gokey, Gary (Elaine) Gokey, Linda Gokey (partner of deceased brother-in-law Peter), Richard Gokey, Mickey Gokey, and Todd Gokey; many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family will be holding a celebration of life in the spring with a date yet to be determined.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Munson Medical Center and Munson Hospice House for the unsurpassed level of personalized and dignified care given to our mother.
Those wishing to honor Peggy’s memory please make a donation in her name to Munson Hospice House of Traverse City, Michigan.
