Marianne Scanlon Murray, 88, passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 2, 2021. She was born October 24, 1932 in Wilkes-Barre, PA to Sylvester and Marian (Price) Scanlon. She married the love of her life, Hugh A. Murray, on February 14, 1975.
Marianne spent much of her time working in the auto industry. After retiring in 1989, she and Hugh moved to Mackinaw City where they completely renovated and restored their historic home “Window on the Water.” They were members of many volunteer organizations including Great Lakes Lighthouse Keepers Association, the Mackinaw Area Public Library, the Mackinaw Area Historical Society, the Paradise Lake Association, the Mackinaw City Chamber of Commerce and both the Mackinaw City and Carp Lake Women’s Clubs.
She was preceded in “crossing the bar” by her husband Hugh on March 10, 2012 and her step-son Bill on November 12, 2020. She is survived by two step-children, several grandchildren, a few great-grandchildren, and her beloved fox-red Labrador retriever, Floyd. Her Charlevoix family was very special to her, playing a large part in her life. So too were her long-time friends from Mackinaw City, Carp Lake and beyond.
A graveside service will take place at Lakeview Cemetery in Mackinaw City on Monday, May 24 at 10am.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any of the above organizations.
The Nordman-Christian Funeral Home is caring for the family.
