Marjorie Marion (Schaefer) Newman

Marjorie M. Newman, age 99 of Cheboygan, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on Saturday, January 31, 2026. Marjorie was born on October 27, 1926 in Cheboygan to Carl and Cordelia (Percy) Schaefer. She married Chester W Newman Sr on August 30, 1947 at St Mary’s Catholic Church. Marjorie and Chester spent over 50 loving years together on their family farm in Cheboygan before his passing in 2005. Marjorie found her greatest joy in nurturing her family and creating a warm, loving home. She especially enjoyed warm summer days in the garden, canning vegetables, baking, and playing endless games of cards with her children and grandchildren. 
Marjorie is survived by children, Chester W Newman Jr of Cheboygan, Rosalinda Newman of Cheboygan, Joycelyn (Roger) Welsh of Cadillac and Rocky (Colleen) Newman of Cheboygan; grandchildren, Jennifer (Matthew) Lahaie, Cary (Dustin) Howell, Jessica Miller, Stephanie (Duane) Renard, Amy Hobbs (David Dennis), Lindsay (Steve) Sanford, Danielle (Jeremy) Runstrom, Bryce (Dana) Welsh, Felicia (Lucas) Walker, Dana (Brent) Paape, and Ryan (Amber) Newman; 20 great-grandchildren; siblings Louis (Kathy) Schaefer, David (Betty) Schaefer, Millie (Everette) Dalgord and sister in law Betty Schaefer. 
Marjorie is proceeded in death by her husband Chester W Sr, son Euclid, daughter Mary, parents Carl and Cordelia and siblings Caesar, Rosalie, Adeline, Raymond, Carl, Robert, Albert, Hazel, and Walter. 
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at St. Mary’s/St. Charles Catholic Church in Cheboygan. Greetings will begin at 10:30 am with mass to follow at 11:00 am. Burial services will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery this Spring.
