Mark Allen Bancroft, age 63 of Cheboygan, passed away at home on April 29, 2021.
Mark was a 1975 graduate of Cheboygan High School. In high school, he created many pieces of artwork, including a wooden hutch that won him first place in a state competition. He was also a member of the Cheboygan Chiefs football team throughout high school. He also played hockey.
After graduation, Mark moved to Florida, where he did surveying in the Everglades. He enjoyed the beach, the sun, and a tequila sunrise.
The call of friends took Mark to the West Coast to California. He worked for Southern Pacific Railroad, doing locomotive maintainance. During his time in the Bay Area, he was also a heavy equipment operator, assisting in rescue efforts of the collapsed highways as a result of the 1989 earthquake.
Returning to Michigan, Mark became a firefighter for the Cheboygan Fire Department serving on the department for 22 years. He was also employed at Creative Cabinetry.
He loved to cook and maintain a garden, canning and sharing the yields of his bountiful garden with others. He also enjoyed playing golf, hunting, and ice fishing.
Mark is survived by his dad Tom, and also his siblings Mike (Bonnie) of Cheboygan, Ken (Lorie) of Lansing, and Lori (Ron) Strow of Cheboygan. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his mother Janet and sister Christine.
Visitation for family and friends will take place at Nordman-Christian Funeral Home on Tuesday May 4th, 2021 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be Wednesday May 5th at 11 a.m., with family receiving visitors 1 hour prior. The burial will take place at Pinehill Cemetery following the service.
