Mark Steven Makima, 74 of Cheboygan, MI. passed away Saturday, April 25, 2026 at his home, a home he built with his own hands with his wife of 53 years, Terry Ann by his side.
Mark was born in Detroit, Ml. on August 26,1951 to Herbert and Florence (Koski) Makima.
Mark grew up in Garden City, MI and graduated from Garden City East High School in 1969.
In his youth, he played baseball in the Detroit area and had outstanding pitching skills, many strikeouts and several no-hitter games. Boxing was also a sport that he enjoyed. Growing up in the Motor City, he was also a proud owner of two Novas. He also enjoyed spending time in the U.P. at his Finnish Grandparents home in Mass City, MI where a nice sauna was enjoyed regularly.
Mark eventually moved to Cheboygan, MI where he met his wife, Terry Ann Jewett. They married on Nov. 11, 1972 at St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Cheboygan, and raised their family.
Mark owned and operated his own contruction business, building homes and did custom carpentry throughout the area. He took extraordinary pride in his craft. The precision and care he brought to every project became his signature.
Beyond his work, Mark was an avid hunter, sportsman and outdoor enthusiast. He had the opportunity to be on the Fred Trost Show with two of his trophy white-tail deer, that were harvested two days apart.
Mark was also a collector of many things including duck and fish decoys which he also enjoyed carving many of his own. A true craftsmans work that reflected the same meticulous hand he brought to everything he made.
Those who spent time with him knew there was always a story to be told and any conversation could end with a laugh. Mark was a man of strong conviction and someone who truly loved the Lord.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents; Herbert and Florence (Koski) Makima; mother and father-in-law, Robert and Lucille (Barrette) Jewett, brother in-law; Robert (Skip) Jewett, sister and brother-in-law; Dragonel and Linda (Jewett) Bukacel.
Mark is survived by his wife Terry Ann (Jewett) Makima; his children, Danielle (Doug) Beebe, Micah Makima, and Courtney (Joseph) Badgley; Grandchildren, Tara, Todd, Blaike, Jake, Ashton, Ethan, Savannah and Hadlee; Great Grand-children; Willow and Vivianne; Siblings; Terry Rae (Makima) Kirkpatrick, Robert (Julie) Makima and David Makima; Brother/Sister In-laws, Jill Jewett, Nancy (Dave) Romanauski, Charlotte Jewett and many nieces, nepnews and extended family.
There will be a memorial service and lunch to follow at the Cheboygan Eagles on Saturday May 2, 2026 at 11:00am. A private burial will take place with family.
