Mary Davison Obituary

It’s about time, Woman!

Paul turned on the light for Mary’s heavenly arrival at 1:58am, Saturday, January 27, 2024.

Mary Ellen (Christian) Davison made a quicker than expected get-away recently. It's hard to imagine a heart the size of hers could fail. We knew it wouldn’t be her gift of gab to let her body down first.

Mary arrived in Ann Arbor, Michigan to parents Daniel and Ethel Christian on November 14, 1940. She became the oldest of 5 siblings but was her dad’s baby deer from that day forward. The Christians eventually made their home in Huntington, IN, where mother graduated high school in 1959. Even back then, she was loved by many, having broken off more than one engagement to marry the love of her life, Paul Davison in 1961. By age 21 she had three children under three years old. Dad’s love of hunting and the great outdoors led the family to Michigan in 1970 and the purchase of the Oden Empire in May of 1971.

Aside from being a great mom to us (and keeper of the wooden spoon), mother held several ‘people positions’ outside of the home, such as waitressing at Holiday Inn, Hallmark store, Kmart, and Daycare. Finally, New Beginnings Thrift Store would be her final and most enjoyable 10 years of employment, retiring at age 80. Wherever she could talk and meet the most ‘strangers’ is where she thrived. She still stopped by to show the ‘newbies’ how to hang clothes properly!

Mother was the typical very involved mom in her children’s lives growing up. There was nothing she wouldn’t do for her family or friends. The door was never locked, beds and bathroom always available, candy in the freezer, and a casserole in the oven. And you better try it too!  It was a given that she offered sweaters and socks to her visitors, as she kept her house on the chilly side. Secretly she loved to know you were freezing LOL. She put fake salt in the saltshaker, served ‘barbeque beef’, knowing it was beaver and loved a good argument about food; namely what dad would and would not eat.

Mother danced with the Petoskey Sideliners for years. She was so proud and looked great in her glitzy dress & shoes, entertaining at different events. She looked great in her bikini t-shirt in the Charlevoix parade, her Easter Bunny costume for the grandkids and I’m sure so much more. Her zest for life was unmatched. She was always good for joke, a good laugh, or just a silly time.

When dad passed, on occasion, mother would call a friend to go to Northwood restaurant for dinner on Sundays. It wasn’t long before she was President of her own Club Mary, having vetted 8-10 women for widowhood. They have eaten dinner together every Sunday for several years.  The fellowship she’s received from this group of beautiful women is beyond measure. She loved you all so much.

Mom is survived by her three best accomplishments; Amy Carey (Al), Jane Davison (Bruce), and Nick Davison (Missy). Northern Michigan is sprinkled with her 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and her brother Mark Christian (Patti). Her sister Anne Cramer and niece & nephew Polly Cramer and Chris Cramer of Florida also survive.  Mother also is survived by her best friends of 70 years, Gary & Sue Carl of Indiana, as well as many great nieces and nephews, cousins, great friends, neighbors and customers.

Of those that have gone before mother is husband Paul Davison, her parents Dan and Ethel Christian, infant brother Matthew Christian, brother Nick Christian, brother-in-law Don Cramer, niece Maryanne Cramer Barbee, in-laws Vance and Imogene Davison.
