Mary Jarema Obituary

Mary Catherine Jarema, 80 of Boyne Falls, MI died peacefully in her sleep at home on May 21, 2025. She is now at rest in the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Father Dennis Stilwell of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Boyne Falls will officiate a mass on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at noon.

Mary was born on June 20, 1944, in Hamtramck, MI, the daughter of Edward and Lottie Zobeck.  She grew up in Detroit, MI and attended school at St. Paul’s High School in Grosse Pointe, MI.  She married Walter Jarema on April 4, 1964, in Detroit. They spent most of their lives in St. Clair Shores, MI, where they raised their three sons, sharing their time between St. Clair Shores and Boyne Falls where they built their cottage on the family homestead. They moved to Boyne Falls permanently in 2018.

Mary is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Walter, her three sons, James (Greta) Jarema, Jeff (Connie) Jarema, and John (Krista) Jarema and leaves behind her grandchildren Hannah (Danny) Coyle, Peyton, Alison, Caroline, Jack, Matthew, and Logan Jarema. She was great-grandmother to Delaney and JJ Coyle. She is also survived by a brother Ed (Rosemary) Zobeck and a sister Chris (Rick) Stuhlsatz. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Lottie Zobeck, sister Sue (Ken) Myslinski, and grandson Jared Jarema.

Mary held multiple jobs while raising three active boys who were involved in hockey, baseball, and football. She later greatly enjoyed watching her grandchildren participate in their favorite activities and looked forward to attending their next school or sporting event. Although she held many jobs, her most recent and favorite job was at Kirlin Lighting Company where she was employed for decades. This led to a lifelong and close family-like friendship with the owner, Jana (Steve) Brownell. Mary enjoyed swimming at Boyne Mountain with her new friends, making family favorite meals, spoiling her loved ones, and shopping or spending time with her grandkids.

Mary was a cancer survivor who fought valiantly for the past 16 years. She faced her treatments with strength and a smile even on her toughest days. You would never hear her complain, but always give thanks for each day.  She was supported through her journey with her loving husband, family by her side, and her deep faith. We know that she would want to thank all of her doctors, nurses, and the staff at Munson Charlevoix Hospital for their excellent care and compassion.

The family suggests any memorials to the Infusion Center at Munson Charlevoix Hospital.
