Mary Wartella Obituary

Mary Anna Wartella
November 12, 1928 – June 18, 2021

Mary passed at Medilodge of Cheboygan on Friday, June 18, 2021 where she recently resided for about 5 years. She was born in Munro Township on the family farm to Ernest and Gertrude Wheelock. Mary was a lifelong resident of Cheboygan.

On January 3, 1953, she married William Floyd Wartella who preceded her in death on December 5, 1990.

Mary gave birth to five children which might be a surprise to some who knew Mary. Her first child was a beautiful baby girl who was given up for adoption. Mary kept this secret for over 60 years. It was a blessing when Mary’s daughter sought out to find her birth mother. After the two of them were reunited, the love between them flourished. Her daughter grew up in Petoskey as Nancy Jean Sauder. Nancy married Steve Jenks and they reside in Hastings, Michigan.

Mary also gave birth to four boys with William F. Wartella. The eldest son, Thomas (friend Norma Nelson) George Wartella of Westminster, CO, Charles (Karen) Floyd Wartella of Cheboygan, Darcy (Karen Davis) Ernest Wartella of Fairchild, WI, and Allan (Kristen) Roger Wartella of Suamico, WI.

Mary had 9 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

The family extends many thanks to Medilodge of Cheboygan for their caring service provided to Mary while she was there. Mary always said, “Everyone is so good to me.”

Sue Johnson and her daughter Sara Johnston are two very special people who loved and provided Mary with books from the local library. They also kept Mary stocked with snacks that Mary enjoyed very much.

Mary was the last of her siblings. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Orville (Ada) Wheelock and Glenn (Barbara) Wheelock, her sister Ethel (Stanley) Adams, son, Charles, daughter-in-law, Nancy (Chambers) Wartella, and granddaughter, Amber Jenks.

Mary was known for keeping her home spic and span, inside and out. She loved to bake cookies and many kinds of dessert. She shared her baked goods with countless people throughout her life and always served them with a smile. She loved to share.
