Mary "Suzy" Parson Obituary

In Loving Memory of Mary Suzanne Parson

Mary Suzanne Parson, affectionately known as Suzy, Suzy Q, Grama Sue, and Mrs. P, departed this world on January 16, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, warmth, and cherished memories. Born on January 14, 1942, in St. Clair, MI, Suzy was the beloved daughter of Matthias and Gladys Stine.

Suzy found joy in family life, embracing her roles as a loving wife, mother, grandma, and great-grandma. She married the love of her life, Robert Dean Parson, Sr., on August 3, 1985. Together, they built a life filled with love and laughter until Robert's passing, predeceasing Suzy. Suzy is survived by their three children: Robert D. Parson (Maureen), Timothy J. Parson, and Paul K. Parson (Linda).

Her professional journey began at Second National Bank in Saginaw, MI, but it was at General Motors, where she served as the Secretary to the Plant Manager from 1973 until her retirement in 1985, that she made lasting contributions.

Post-retirement, Suzy and Bob embarked on a new chapter in Cross Village, MI where they established Parson's Pass—which served as both home to them and a haven for visiting family and friends over the course of four decades.

Suzy's commitment to her faith and community was evident through her active involvement in Holy Cross Catholic Church, where she served as the Pastoral Associate, lovingly referred to as the "Church Lady." She played an instrumental role in keeping the doors at Holy Cross open in recent years and also held positions in Pastoral Council, Christian Service, Ladies Guild, and the Holy Cross Festival where she led planning activities for celebrating its centenary.

Suzy's passion for community extended to her work with Mike Hillis, initiating Cross Village community service. Her volunteering efforts ranged from organizing parades to mini-fairs, enriching the lives of those around her.

A devoted University of Michigan football fan, Suzy had the joy of witnessing her Wolverines recently win the national championship. Over the years, her diverse hobbies evolved from gardening, ceramics, and snowmobiling to cherished lunch and shopping outings with friends.

Suzy's heart belonged to her family. She took immense pride in hosting gatherings at Parson's Pass, knitting blankets for great-grandchildren, and sharing family stories with friends. Suzy's memory lives on in her grandchildren: Meryl (Dan) Hayes, Kristine Parson, Jeffrey Parson, Kevin Parson, Allyson Medina, Ted (Laura) Parson, Mark (Laura) Parson, and Mary Kallee (Paddy) Hobohm, as well as her great-grandchildren: Bradyn & Kyla Suzanne Hayes, Luciana & Leo Medina, Natalie, Benjamin, Jack, Nicholas & Luca Parson, Reid & Finn Hobohm.

Suzy will be dearly missed by her special friends, Craig and Julie Miller, and the countless friends she made in Cross Village over the years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Holy Cross Church in Cross Village, Michigan.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial mass will be held on May 18, 2024, immediately followed by graveside burial and celebration of life, providing an opportunity for friends and family to come together to honor and celebrate the remarkable life of Mary Suzanne Parson. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
