Mathew Kline Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Mathew Kline on April 10, 2026, at the age of 53.

Mathew was born on December 14, 1972, in Petoskey, Michigan, the son of Lawrence J. Kline, Jr. and Katherine M. (Slocum) Collet. He graduated from Harbor Springs High School in 1990 and later took classes at North Central Michigan College.

Mathew was a funny and deeply loyal man who brought light and laughter to those around him. He had a gift for making even the simplest moments memorable, often through his humor, and easygoing spirit. He was a talented singer who enjoyed all kinds of music, especially karaoke nights where he could share that joy with others.

Above all else, Mathew was devoted to his family and friends. He shared a deep and loving bond with his fiancée, Carrie Hickman, and took immense pride in his daughter, stepchildren, and grandchildren. His family was his greatest joy, and he cherished every opportunity to spend time together.

Mathew found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. He loved playing pool and disc golf, spending time out on the water boating and fishing, watching sports, and playing golf. He was a dedicated fan of Detroit sports teams, especially the Tigers and Lions.

He is survived by his daughter, Amanda (Brett) Hutcheon of Manchester, Michigan; his mother, Kathy Collet of Petoskey; his fiancée, Carrie Hickman of Petoskey; his brothers, Jonathon Kline and Jesse Kenwabikise, both of Petoskey; his grandson, Ferris Hutcheon; his grandmother, Mary Kae Slocum; Carrie’s children, Justin, Megan, Trevor, Stephenie, and Olivia; and Carrie’s eleven grandchildren, whom he loved as his own; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence J. Kline, Jr. and grandfather Norman Slocum, Jr.

Mathew will be remembered for his compassion, his humor, and his unwavering love for those closest to him. Though he will be deeply missed, his laughter, love, and vibrant spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends forever. His legacy of kindness continues even in death through his Gift of Life donation, helping countless others in need.

Services will be held at a later time. Arrangements are in the care of Stone Funeral Home, Petoskey.
