Matilda "Tillie" Cone Obituary

Matilda “Tillie” Cone, 98, of Petoskey, went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 14, 2020.

Tillie was born on November 7, 1921, the daughter of Joshua Stowe and Lizzie (Parker) Tatro. She was the 13th oldest of 21 kids in her family.

On September 23, 1939, she married the love of her life, Aldwyn C. Cone. They made their home in Petoskey, where they raised their children. Aldwyn and Tillie’s winter home in Frostproof, Florida became their year-round residence until Aldwyn's death in 2001, which led Tillie to return to Northern Michigan. She volunteered with many organizations, most notably the Tipp of the Mitt Watershed Council. She was a very social person and her presence would light up a room. She attended the Salvation Army and had a very close relationship with the Lord.

Tillie is survived by her son, Butch (Janice) Cone of Petoskey and her daughter, Lynda (Gary) Doyle; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; her younger brother Rich Tatro; and several nieces and nephews.

Tillie is preceded in death by her husband, Aldwyn C. Cone; children, Chistel Cone, DeAnna Cramer, and James Cone; and her 19 siblings.

A special heartfelt thank you to Jo and Jerry Hickman, who made sure that Tillie was able to attend church every week. Your friendship meant the world to her.

Also, Tillie’s family would like to thank the staff at Villa at the Bay for taking such good care of her during her last few months.

There are no services planned at this time but if you would like to make a charitable donation in her memory, please consider the Alzheimer’s Foundation (alzfdn.org).
