Lifelong Cheboygan resident, Maurice ‘Maury’ Eustice passed away peacefully at his home on the beloved Cheboygan River Thursday morning. Maury had the unique ability to make friends with everyone he encountered, always offering a warm smile, joke, or advice. Maury is well known for founding Modern Pharmacy on February 21, 1950, and through his passion, hard work and dedication to helping people, he built the reputation it still enjoys today. A dedicated advocate for the community, Maury took great pride in bringing people together, always involved in new projects and ideas; he was a true catalyst connecting the dots when most people couldn’t even see them. Throughout his life, Maury was a never-ending wealth of information and advice – solicited or not.
Maurice was born in Cheboygan on October 15, 1927, to James and Mary Eustice. Maury attended Cheboygan High School and married his high school sweetheart Barbara (Barb) Wight on June 8, 1950. Maury went on to obtain his degree in Pharmacology at the University of Detroit, returning to Cheboygan and founding Modern Pharmacy. Maury and Barb were blessed with two daughters Sally and Kathy.
Maurice is survived by his daughter Kathy S. Eustice, grandchildren, Erin E. Felski and Joseph V. Dombrowski, III, great grand daughter Abbey M. Felski, son-in-law Russell ‘Rusty’ Humphrey, sister Aileen (Eustice) Bauers, and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
Maury was an esteemed member of the Michigan Board of Pharmacy. He was respected by his colleagues and was a much sought-after mentor, assisting countless ‘hopefuls’ to fulfill their goals within the pharmacological community.
One of his favorite one-liners was: “Hi! My name is Maurice, shake the hand that shook the world.”
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, at Nordman Christian Funeral Home from 1-3 PM and 5-7 PM with a Rosary Prayer at 6 PM.
