Melody Ann Boughner

Melody Ann Boughner, 79, of Alanson, Michigan, formerly of Petoskey, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2025.

Born in Petoskey on September 14, 1946, Melody was the daughter of Avis (Taylor) Heynig and William Krauser. She graduated from Our Lady of Charity and attended North Central Michigan College, beginning a lifelong journey of curiosity, creativity, and compassion.

Melody made her home in northern Michigan, where she found joy in the simple things — the loyal companionship of her beloved dog, Baby, quiet mornings with a crossword puzzle and a good book, and the laughter of family gathered nearby. She relished in the successes of her children and grandchildren, taking immense pride in every milestone, large or small. Known for her warm laugh, quick wit, frank honesty, and generous heart, she lived her life with kindness and quiet strength, always putting others before herself.

She is survived by her two sons, Mark (Irene Subala) Boughner of Alexandria, Virginia, and Mike (Megan) Boughner of Petoskey, Michigan; her beloved four grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and many extended family members and dear friends who will cherish her memory. Melody was preceded in death by her parents, William (1994) and Avis (2004), and her brother, Henry W. Krauser (2004).

Melody will be interred at Greenwood Cemetery in Petoskey on November 1, 2025, with a graveside service scheduled for 11:00 a.m. An open house and celebration of life will follow at the home of Mike and Megan Boughner from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., where family and friends are invited to gather, share stories, and honor her memory.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Friendship Center Petoskey Michigan, The Melody Boughner funeral fund, or the Emmett County Humane Society.
