Michael K. Heinz II of Winter Garden, Florida, passed away at his home on Sunday, November 7, 2021. Mike was born on August 30, 1971, to Michael and Madaline Heinz of Harbor Springs, where he grew up.
Mike graduated from Harbor Springs High School in 1989. He was very active during his school years, playing football and baseball for all four years. He was always smiling and always there for others; he was well loved by his classmates.
After high school Mike went to college at Johnson and Wales in Providence, Rhode Island, and he graduated with an Associates degree. After graduation, Mike had some varied experiences, including working as a chef and kitchen manager at a boys’ camp in Georgia, but he found his true passion in life when he began working as a substitute teacher at the middle school in Winter Garden. He loved the work and he touched and influenced many young lives during his time there. Recently he was very excited to be accepted into Western Governors University where he planned to get his credentials to be a full time teacher.
Mike was a true Michigan State Spartans fan and he never wavered in his support. He was also loyal to the Detroit Lions and the Detroit Tigers and he wasn’t a fair weather fan. Win or lose, he stuck with his teams.
Since moving to Florida, one of Mike’s favorite pastimes was going to Disneyworld. Whenever family and friends came to visit, he was excited to take them to Disney and show them all the ins & outs of the park.
Michael is survived by his mother, Madaline Heinz, his brothers, Allen (Liesl),William, Lyle (Rochelle) and Christopher (Gabrielle). He was Uncle Mikey to his nephews and nieces and he had numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He also leaves behind Kristin and their beloved German Shepherd, Jazz.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, Michael (Mick) Heinz, his grandparents, Grandma Anne and Grandpa Lyle Heinz, his Grandmother Marge Peterson (Koboski) and Grandfather Allen Peterson, Uncle James Heinz and cousins Kathleen and Jennifer Heinz and Heather (Hofbauer) LaPointe.
There will be a luncheon to celebrate Michael’s life and share memories on Saturday, December 4th, 2021, from noon to 4PM at the Holy Childhood Parish Hall in Harbor Springs. The family suggests that donations in Michael’s memory can be made to the Humane Society.
