Michael H. Schlappi, 59 of Cross Village, walked on January 20, 2022.
Michael was born on September 7, 1962 in Petoskey, son of the late Forrest “Richard” Schlappi and Ann Marie Gibson Schlappi and was raised in Harbor Springs, “Indian Town”. He graduated from Harbor Springs High school with the class of 1981 and following high school travelled all over the United States.
Michael was a hard and diligent worker and worked construction for various local construction companies. Later, due to his passion for cooking, he went to work as a cook and worked at several local restaurants. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, animals and farming. Michael always stayed busy and to him, his family was everything. He believed in and loved his family deeply and thrived on all of his family functions.
He was a member of the Little Traverse Band of Odawa Indians and served as a Bugler for the Harbor Springs Drum and Bugler Corps.
He’s survived by a son, Austin (Carissa) Schlappi; a daughter, Ashley (Randy) Gasco; 3 grandchildren, Peyton, Burton, and Hattie; and by 5 siblings, Kevin Schlappi, Robbie Schlappi, Tony Schlappi, Richard (Christina) Schlappi, and Jennifer (Ricky) Trudell and by many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the Stone Funeral Home of Petoskey on Friday from 6-8pm and on Saturday at the Holy Childhood Catholic Church in Harbor Springs from 10-11am. A funeral Mass will immediately follow at 11am. A luncheon will follow at the Holy Childhood Parish hall.
