Nadine Carolyn (Shanley) Sheldon

Nadine Carolyn Sheldon, 79 of Petoskey, died July 3, 2018 in Petoskey. 

Nadine was born on May 27, 1939 in Petoskey, the daughter of Wilford and Fiance (Kauffman) Shanley.  She graduated from Petoskey High School and attended Ferris State College. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She also attended the Carnegie Institute to obtain her medical assistance accreditation.  Nadine worked various jobs before going to work as a Medical Assistant for Dr. Drake and later Dr. Deckinga, from where she later retired.

On May 19, 1973, Nadine married the love of her life, Paul Sheldon, and together they made their home in Petoskey.  Paul preceded Nadine in death on March 11, 2010 after 36 years of marriage.

Nadine loved the outdoors.  She enjoyed mushrooming, cutting wood, tending to her beautiful gardens and flowers, as well as skiing and golfing.  She also enjoyed bowling and playing bridge.  She loved spending time with her family and friends and hosting events that would bring all of them together.  She will be greatly missed by all those that knew and loved her.

She is survived by her daughter, Kelli (Chad) White of Durango, CO; step-son, Gale (Sherry) Sheldon of Charlevoix; grandchildren, Logan, Adin, and Colton White; step-grandchildren, Garrick Shanley, Shelda (Rob) Blair, Kerry (Jeff) Johnson, Nikki (Bernie) Garrigan and Matt (Nikole) Sheldon; and siblings, Wilford “Bud” Shanley, Vic (Carol) Shanley, and Gary (Lynda) Shanley; dear friend, Emily Stratton; and by many nieces and nephews.

Nadine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul; and by a sister, Beverly Mish.

A memorial service celebrating Nadine’s life will be held on August 2nd at 11:00am at the Stone Funeral Home with the Rev. David Behling officiating.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10am until the time of service. 

She was a member of the Friendship Centers of Emmet County, and as such, the family requests that donations be directed to them, or to other local organizations like the McLaren Hospice of Petoskey.
