Nancy A. Hawkey (Pellenz), 71, passed away suddenly at home on June 5, 2022. She was born December 18, 1950 in Lansing, MI to Charles and Nadine Pellenz. She was raised in Cheboygan, attending and graduating from Cheboygan Catholic High in 1969.
Nancy met Paul Hawkey while he was stationed on the USCG Cutter Mackinaw and they married in October 1969. Throughout the years, she moved many times as the USCG Stations changed. She finally moved back to her home town of Cheboygan in 1988 when her husband retired from the USCG.
Nancy spent her life enjoying her family, raising her daughters, and being a coastie wife. Her free time was busy doing ceramics, oil painting, crocheting, working crosswords and puzzles, and becoming an expert seamstress sewing clothes for her family, including wedding dresses for both her daughters. Her greatest joy was being Nana to her four granddaughters who she loved to babysit while they were growing up.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Glenn and Charlie. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Paul Hawkey, daughters, Sara (John) Wanke, Alice (Tom) Dawson, granddaughters, Ella and Callie Wanke, Mya and Kora Dawson, siblings, David Pellenz, Jill (Skip) Jewett, Sandy (Bob) Socolovitch, and Tom Pellenz, and many nieces and nephews.
The family will hold a celebration of life later this summer.
