Nancy Wartella passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 15th in her home
surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 30, 1939, in South Rockwood, Michigan,
the daughter of James and June (Ray) Carscaddin.
Nancy married Jerome Wartella, her husband of 53 years on January 23, 1963. She enjoyed
spending time with her family here in Cheboygan. Nancy was an avid gardener producing a
gorgeous display of flowers, fruits, and vegetables around her home each Summer. In addition
to her affinity for gardening, Nancy enjoyed various arts and crafts. Each year, she would make
homemade gifts for her family around the holidays. These gifts ranged from hand knitted or
crocheted slippers and socks, to quilts, and her ever popular handmade pajamas (coined
“Gramma Jammas” by her grandkids!). Nancy was an accomplished painter, seamstress, and
craftswoman, but above all, she was a loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother.
Nancy is survived by her daughters Janine (Tom) Martin, and Connie Moulder. She is also
survived by her grandchildren Ann (Josh), Jolene (Spence), Erika, Robert, and Sarah (Sean),
and her sister Beverly Brewster. She is preceded in death by her husband Jerome Wartella, her
son Jeffrey Wartella, her sister Carol Hedlund, her parents James and June Carscaddin, and
her son in law Robert Moulder.
Memorial services for Nancy Wartella will be determined at a later date. The Nordman Christian
