M. Patricia “Pat” Splan, passed away Sunday, February 15, 2020.  She is survived by her 4 children Steve (Beth) Splan, Denise (Tim) Rice, Kim (Clark) Smith, and Tom (Cheryl) Splan, as well as her 8 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and many family and friends.

She is was proceeded in death by her husband Willard S. Splan, her parents Elmer & Mae Williams, brother Leon Williams, sister Alice Kaledo, and grandson Ethan S. Rice.

Pat was born on January 7, 1930, in Fort Wayne Indiana, to Elmer and Mae (Martz) Williams.  Pat had 3 siblings; Leon, Ralph and Alice. As a child, Pat moved to Washington D.C. where her father worked for the government. At the age of 13, Pat's family moved to Bay City, Michigan where she attended Bay City Central until her senior year when the family purchased property on Neebish Island and Pat then attended Soo High where she graduated from in 1947.  It was in the Soo that she met Will Splan and the two were married on September 9, 1950 and moved to Petoskey. They bought a home on Cemetery Road, where she lived until her death. Pat was a stay at home mom for many years, but later went to work as a book-keeper for the Emmet County Department of Social Services until she retired.

Pat enjoyed her family most of all and spent lots of time with them. In her spare time, she loved to play cards, go to lunch with friends, travel, do puzzles, read and attend her church.

A memorial service celebrating Pat's life will be held on August 14th at 11am at the First Presbyterian Church of Petoskey.

At the family request, those wishing to honor Pat’s memory are asked to make donations directly to the Hiland Cottage via the McLaren Hospital Foundation.
