Patrick Michael Adelaine, 75, of Harbor Springs, died January 16, 2024 at home with family by his side after a 7 year struggle with advancing Parkinson’s disease.
Patrick was born June 3, 1948, in Detroit, Michigan; he was the son of Steve and Ann (Bango) Adelaine. His family moved north to Harbor Springs in 1963 where they owned and operated several businesses. After high school and throughout his life, Patrick worked mainly for his family at Adelaine’s Bavarian Inn, Little Traverse Motors and later, Adelaine Construction. He was immensely proud of his family and all they had accomplished together.
On June 6, 1987 at age 39, the nearly confirmed bachelor married his true love, Patricia “Patti” Poeppe at Holy Childhood Catholic Church in Harbor Springs. Through their shared faith in God, they built a strong family-centered life together which included a daughter, Olivia.
Patrick found harmony and a sense of interconnectedness with nature. He was a talented photographer and loved capturing the beauty that Northern Michigan has to offer. He will be forever remembered for his photographs of Little Traverse Bay, lighthouses, wildflowers, barns, and wildlife, especially hummingbirds and swans.
For anyone that knew him, Patrick was known to be a grateful, quiet and gentle man. His kindness showed no bounds as he offered help to anyone in need, never expecting anything in return. Regardless of how ill he was, he never let an opportunity pass to thank his family or caregivers for the concern or care they provided him.
Aside from photography, Patrick enjoyed cross country skiing and snowshoeing, as well as working in his yard gardening or planting trees. He loved Sturgeon Bay and spent a lot of time there enjoying the sandy beach or cool waters of Lake Michigan on a hot day. From his many hikes in the woods, he foraged what nature offered and composed beautiful wreaths for the fall and winter seasons. He and his family were proud of their Hungarian heritage and took any opportunity to enjoy its food and music. Other musical interests he could be heard enjoying included Jazz and Blues, in addition to Bob Seger and the band, Chicago.
It was obvious to all, Patrick’s greatest joy in life was his family, immediate and extended. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Patti Adelaine of Petoskey; his beloved daughter Olivia Adelaine and granddaughter Lola; his siblings, Steven
Adelaine, Michael (Barbara) Adelaine, and Teresa (Chris) Chaney. He is preceded in death by his parents.
There will be a Memorial Mass at St. Francis Xavier Church on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. A gathering of family and friends will take place at the church from 9:30-11:00 a.m. Burial will take place in the spring.
