Patrick Bolen Obituary

Patrick (Pat) Frank Bolen, 74 of Cheboygan, Michigan, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2025. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Bolen and his daughter Michelle (Ryan) Spies and his grandchildren Duncan and Tucker Spies.

Pat was a devoted husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather whose humor and generosity touched everyone he met. He shared 44 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife. He was a proud father and grandfather, never missing a chance to cheer from the sidelines at his grandsons’ (favorite knuckleheads) baseball and basketball games or to encourage them at cross-country meets. Although he was never one to show his love through physical affection or words of endearment, Pat had fierce protection of those he loved—and you always knew it through his actions. He welcomed any project with his Son-in-Law Ryan and enjoyed every minute of their time together because as he always said, “Everyone loves Ryan”. His dedication to his family was unmatched, and the memories he created with them will be treasured forever.

Pat had a long and fulfilling career as a phone technician with Michigan Bell/Ameritech in Detroit before transferring to Cheboygan, where he finished his service. After retirement, he continued his passion for the trade by opening Primetime Communications, proudly providing phone services to local residents and businesses.

Pat’s years of service to his community reflected his deep commitment to helping others. He founded the Cheboygan Youth Livestock Program, served as a member of the Cheboygan Area Schools Board of Education, and was a proud member of the Cheboygan County Veterans. His leadership and example have left a lasting impact on the community he cared so deeply about.

Pat took immense pride in enhancing the Cheboygan Veterans Memorial Park and played a pivotal role in the Veteran Banner program. His role as the chairman of the Cheboygan County Veterans Subcommittee was marked by his tireless efforts and dedication to veteran causes. Despite his significant contributions, Pat was remarkably humble, never seeking recognition for his work. Instead, he focused on the greater good, embodying a selfless nature that inspired all who had the privilege of working alongside him. These character traits, and the work he has done within the community, are what earned Pat the title of Hometown Hero of the Year for 2025.

Pat was more than just a veteran; he was a source of strength and a friend to many. His innate ability to infuse humor and joy into every activity left an imprint on those around him. Pat’s lighthearted spirit and genuine care for others created an environment where everyone felt uplifted and motivated to do more. He will be fondly remembered among the veteran community not only for his service to his country, but also for the profound love and generosity he shared with everyone. His absence will be deeply felt within our veteran community.

Fair winds and following seas. We have the watch.

Pat will be honored on Tuesday, October 21st, at 11:45 a.m. in Veterans Park by the Honor Guard in recognition of his service and dedication.

In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to make a charitable donation should consider the Cheboygan County Veterans Services or the Cheboygan County Youth Livestock Program.
