Patrick E. Coleman

Patrick E. Coleman of Cheboygan died November 18, 2022 with his wife, daughter, and son at his side. Pat was born September 1, 1948 in Cheboygan to Reginald J. and Janice (Smith) Coleman. Pat served in the U.S. Navy as a signalman about the USS New (DD 818), and honorable discharged on February 20, 1974. Pat married Anna Lenz on September 4, 1971 and made their home in Cheboygan where they raised their two children Suzanne (Vincent Carney and Mark (Kimberly) Coleman. Pat enjoyed his five grandchildren who he often said “wears me out just watching them.”

Pat worked at the Proctor and Gamble paper mill for 23 years and then after the mill closed he worked construction jobs, and delivering medical supplies for ABC Medical.

Pat loved the outdoors and working on outdoor projects at home. He was an avid University of Michigan Football fan and activities at home were often planned around the UofM football game schedule. When he was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease and the doctor asked him which hospital he would chose to handle his care (and eventual kidney transplant) he of course chose the UofM. GO BLUE

Pat is survived by his wife Anna; daughter Suzanne (Vincent) Carney; son Mark (Kimberly) Coleman; his mother Janice Coleman; brother Michael (Theresa) Coleman; brother-in-law Frits Ponsen; and five grandchildren Samuel Carney, Evan Carney, Lucy Coleman, Jack Coleman, and Maxwell Coleman; and step-granddaughter Tia Nelson and her children Ashton and Ruby.

Pat was preceded in death by his father Reginald J. Coleman and sister Suzanne Ponsen.

The family would like to thank Fr. Lew Crusoe and everyone for their prayers, love, and support. A special thank you to the caregivers, nurses, therapists, staff, and doctor at the Medilodge of Cheboygan for the excellent and compassionate care they provided; as well as to all the doctors and everyone at UofM Hospitals and Hospice of Michigan.

A funeral service will take place at St. James Episcopal in Cheboygan on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at 11am with family greeting friends beginning one hour prior. Father Lew Crusoe will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. James Episcopal Church, Hospice of Michigan, or the Cheboygan County Humane Society.
