Peter Jarrett Vellenga, born on September 5, 1941, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at the age of 84 years old on October 26, 2025, surrounded by his loving family and his wife, Constance Vellenga. He was the beloved son of Virginia Jarrett Vellenga and Arthur Vellenga.
Peter, or “Pa” as he was affectionately known to his grandchildren, lived a life marked by love, compassion and an unwavering faith in God. His passing left a void in the hearts of his family, his many friends and many others whose lives he touched in many different ways.
Peter is survived by his wife, Constance Vellenga; his sister and brother-in-law Joan Vellenga Clark and Robert Clark; his children, Christian Vellenga, and Kristen Turner; his step-children Robin Laskowski, Jodi Doak, and Brad Taylor; and his grandchildren Caleb Laskowski, Faith Laskowski, Orion Doak, Allaina Doak, Iris Vellenga, Elliot Turner and Quinn Turner; his great-grandchildren Ransom Laskowski and Adeline Laskowski. He leaves a nephew, Jarrett Clark and a host of cousins who adored him dearly.
Peter graduated from Morgan Park high school in Illinois and then joined the Navy, where he served as a photographer’s mate. He was a First Mate and was stationed on the USS Wasp during his service. He then went to the University of Boulder Colorado and received a Bachelor’s of Science. He then attended Washburn Law School in Topeka Kansas and graduated with a Juris Doctorate.
After he gave his life to Christ, Peter used his gifts to minister and give to others. He helped to start the Promise FM at 90.5 and also helped to start a Christian radio station in Belize resulting in the saving of many souls for Jesus. He founded and ran Northern Michigan Christian Conciliation Service, that helped restore and save countless marriages, as his ministry is used in many churches. www.christianadr.org
Outside of the ministry, Peter enjoyed spending his summers on Walloon Lake, fishing, boating and spending time with family and friends. He had a winter home in Florida where he enjoyed kayaking, two Bible studies, many friends and walks on the beach.
Peter was a member of Walloon Lake Community Church in Michigan and Bay Side Community Church in Florida. He was a member of the American Legion in Boyne City, Michigan.
