Phyllis C. Greenhoe, 92, passed away on November 11, 2023 at Medilodge of Rogers City.
Phyllis was born on September 29, 1931 in Royal Oak, MI, daughter of the late Arthur and Clara (Schliska) Reuter. During her work years she was a social worker with a primary focus on family intervention, problem solving and treatment plan development. She also spent time volunteering as a Home Hospice Volunteer for the very organization that gave loving care to her the last year of her life.
On June 25, 1949, Phyllis married Loyal K. Greenhoe and they lived in Hazel Park until moving to Big Rapids in 1981. After raising her family, Phyllis went back to school, earning an Associate of Arts from Montcalm Community College then on to Ferris State University where she was in the top of her graduating class. Loyal preceded Phyllis in death on May 4, 1994.
Phyllis was a solid believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, coming to know him as a young woman through the Salvation Army. Over the years she also was part of the Free Methodist Church and then moving to the Northern Michigan area, the Alanson Church of the Nazarene.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother and just missed getting to know her great great grandson. Through the years she filled many roles for her family. When it was needed she was a babysitter, a life coach, a mentor, a homework supervisor, sometimes the bank and a teacher of how to make perfect rosettes for a celebratory cake. A family highlight was when she took everyone who could go on a four day trip to Disney Resort.
Because of declining health, the last two years of her life she resided in Rogers City at Medilodge. We thank the wonderful staff for their kind and professional care and also Hospice who visited and supplied comfort often.
She is survived by her sons, Kenneth W. (Catherine) Greenhoe of Alanson, Michigan and Kevin W. (Marsha) Greenhoe of Caldwell, Ohio; sister, Carolyn (Richard) Bradish of Ashburn, Virginia; grandchildren, Mary M. Freeman, Cher 'O' Lynn Boik, Kenneth L. Greenhoe, Heather Schild, Amber Spear; great grandchildren, Willian K. Freeman, Nickalaus A. Freeman, Timothy A. Freeman, Elizabeth (Elliot) Ernest, Anthony Schild, Ryan Winchel, Alexandra Greenhoe, Alyssa Spear; great great grandchildren, Coraline E. Freeman, Dex Cade; niece, Linda Bradish and nephews, Michael Bradish, Stephen Bradish, and Wayne Bradish.
Phyllis will be laid to rest next to her husband Loyal at a later date at the Highland View Cemetery in Big Rapids, MI.
