Rachel Leigh Reno, born June 25, 1981, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 2, 2021. She passed away peacefully after battling an illness.
Rachel was born to Timothy and Arlene Reno and has been a lifelong resident of Petoskey, Michigan. After graduating from Petoskey High School in 1999, Rachel attended North Central Michigan College, Northern Michigan University, and Spring Arbor University where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Development.
Rachel served the communities of Northern Michigan for her entire adult life. She was a former preschool teacher at Charlevoix St. Mary’s Catholic School and eventually transitioned careers after being called to Children’s Ministry. Rachel served for 5 years as Harbor Light Community Chapel’s Director of Children’s Ministry, carrying the message of Jesus to the children of Harbor Light and the community. Her ministry was carried out through love, servanthood, and devotion to Christ’s calling.
Rachel made an impact on so many while serving at Harbor Light. She not only served as the Children’s Director, but as a middle and high school youth group leader for almost 20 years. She served all aspects of youth ministry and lived for the moments where she could see kids connect with Jesus. Rachel’s ministry was not just a job to her, but a calling. She dedicated her life to the children of God and accomplished His mission in her life.
Aside from her ministry, Rachel loved spending time with friends and family. She was known for her love of the Wizard of Oz, Hocus Pocus and her timeless jean jacket. Rachel was always up for an adventure and New Kids on the Block concerts. When she wasn’t serving the community, Rachel loved singing, shopping, crafting, and a good Disney+ binge.
Rachel was preceded in death by her father, Timothy Reno (April, 20, 2020), her paternal grandparents Max and Betty Reno, maternal grandparents Lloyd and Betty Washburn, and her Uncle Ronald Clevenger. She is survived by her loving mother Arlene, her siblings, Ian (Crystal) Reno, Jared (Kayla) Reno, her nieces and nephews Zachary, Charlotte, Henry, Zeke, and Julian, and her dog Gizmo.
