Rand Shackleton Obituary

We bid farewell to our adventurous and generous friend, Rand Emerson Shackleton, from Cross Village, Michigan, who passed on April 4, 2025, at the age of 80. He was born in Detroit, MI on September 2, 1944, to parents, Robert Emerson and Mary Jean (Jorae) Shackleton. Rand grew up in East Lansing and attended East Lansing High School and Michigan State University.

Rand had an amazing career at Ross Roy Advertising in Detroit until he fell in love with Laura Chaney and Northern Michigan. While in Detroit, he started a program called the Spirit of Shackleton Creative Leadership Program which was inspired by the famous explorer, Ernest Shackleton. Once in Northern Michigan, he started his next passion, a successful videography and photography business.

With his intrepid wife, Laura, they traveled and spent several summers on Beaver Island and enjoyed a trip to Antarctica to see where Ernest Shackleton's famous voyage occurred. In his retirement he enjoyed golfing with friends and playing basketball. He was known to be "the greatest storyteller who ever lived."

He is survived by his wife Laura Chaney; sisters Sue Miller and Jane Blessing; brother Joe Shackleton; nieces and nephews; and many, many friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bay Bluffs or the charity of your choice. A private celebration of life will be scheduled for this summer.
