Randall Dobie Obituary

Randall Paul Dobie, age 67, of Petoskey, Michigan, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2021 after a short battle with cancer. Born on February 6, 1954 to Walter and Mary Dobie, Randy quickly established his place among his five siblings as the jokester of the family. Randy was driven early on with his spark of curiosity which led to his many hours of perfecting his skill of painting, carpentry and landscaping.  Within his circle of family and friends, Randy was famous for his disappearing quarter trick, “finger in the box” gag, and crafting marble games as gifts for the people he loved.  Randy will be remembered fondly for chasing his daughter around town with an air horn, roasting s’mores around the campfire with the smallest marshmallows he could find, being a pen pal to his best “little buddy”, Samuel, and for the genuine love and acceptance he had for anyone he crossed paths with.  His large circle of friends lovingly called him “Uncle Randy”.  Above all else, Randy will be missed for his kind heart and warm smile, and for offering help to anyone in need.

Randy was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Dobie, brother Gregori Dobie, nephew Nicholas Thornsbury, and his “little buddy” Samuel Myers.  He was a loving and devoted father to Heidi (Dan Brown) Kolinski, Ryan (Christina) Dobie, Jason (Heather) Johnson, and Sharon Bearss.  He is survived by his siblings Richard (Deb) Dobie, Ann (Stephen) Lefere, Christopher (Donna) Dobie, and Paula (Danny George) Thornsbury, Father, Walter Dobie, Grandchildren Jacob, Megan, McKinley, and Easton as well as lifelong friends, Betty Myers and Lynne Johnson, and many, many, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family would like to thank the caring staff at McLaren Hospice, who cared for Randy in his final days.  Per his wishes, cremation has taken place.  There will be an outdoor celebration of his life on May 29, 2021 at 2pm at the Bear River Shelter in the Bear River Valley Recreation Area with family friend, Father Robert Pienta officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the McLaren Northern Michigan Foundation are appreciated.
