Randy Seiss, age 78, died peacefully at home recently after a long illness.
He was the second of six children born to Howard and Erna Seiss of Bloomfield Hills, Mi. He married Lorraine Lund in 1993; she survives him.
Randy graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Chemical Engineering and researched materials and developed them for Dow Corning, Genova, Inc. and Dow Chemical Company, retiring in 2003. Immediately upon retirement, he began studies at the University of Michigan and earned a Masters degree in Architecture. Following graduation, he worked for Flad Architects in Madison, Wisconsin designing research laboratories and fulfilled requirements for licensure. He remained semi-retired and worked as an architect until death. His education also included his love of the piano. He took piano lessons and music theory through his adult life until his death.
Randy and Lorraine moved to Harbor Springs in 2009. They enjoyed community involvement, bicycling, cross country skiing, kayaking, and swimming. Community involvement included board participation with Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Michigan, Harbor, Inc., Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra, and the state board for the American Institute of Architects.
Lorraine and Randy traveled internationally to all continents to enjoy the culture, architecture, food, history, and meeting people. Randy especially liked the water and sailing, snorkeling, swimming and SCUBA diving. He sailed to most of the Caribbean islands, sometimes joining friends who were living aboard their boats. They often requested him to bring things difficult to obtain in the islands and one time he took a propane tank (empty) for a grill in his checked luggage.
Besides his wife Lorraine, he is survived by his siblings: Leslie (Gerald Borsuk), Laura, Leland (Ellen), Roberta (Paul Haas), and Frederick (Linda), step-son Ben Lund (Maria Castellese), Tonnie Schmidt, Nieces and nephews: Greg Borsuk, Lisa Borsuk, Mathew Seiss, Marisa Seiss, Genevieve Haas, Michael Haas, Holly Seiss, Zachary Seiss, and three grandchildren Timothy Schmidt Jr., (Alyssa), Dagny Schmitt (Tristan), and Sten Schmidt.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 1:30pm on February 7, 2026, at First Presbyterian Church, Harbor Springs, Michigan.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Randy’s honor to Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra or Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Michigan.
