Raymond Lewis

Raymond Charles Lewis, 87, of Petoskey, MI, surrounded by his family, went to be with his Savior on September 13, 2019.

Ray was born on April 21, 1932 to Alvin Leroy Lewis of Conway, Michigan and Inez Pettis of Petoskey, Michigan. On June 16, 1951 he married the love of his life, Helen Fettig of Petoskey, Michigan.

Ray was known to everyone he came in contact with as gentle, kind, a man of his word, and a hard worker. His family knew him by all that plus loyal, honest, giving, loving, humble, respectable, a sense of humor and inventive.

Ray worked as a floor installer at Vaughn’s Floor Covering for 30 years, then on his own for 12 years. Often, he would be invited to sit with customers to have a snack and conversation.

Ray also raised and sold strawberries as well as picked night crawlers which he sold to local businesses.

At home he raised vegetables and kept the family yard immaculate with flowers. He was very inventive, having designed Bonda Bead, a carpet scriber, a smokeless ashtray and he had many more kept in a notebook.

With all these things he still had time to spend with family, friends, fishing and fishing with family and friends.

Ray is survived in death by his wife Helen; his son Steven (Pamela) Lewis od Walloon Lake; his daughters: Carlene Lewis of Harbor Springs, Debra Hardy of Boyne City, and Judy Lewis of Petoskey; his 44 grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; and his many aunts, uncles, nieces, and a nephew.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents and recently by his sister Bonnie Meyers of Cheboygan and his uncle, Benny Lewis of Harbor Springs. 

Services celebrating Ray’s life will be held on Saturday, September 21st at 11am at the Stone Funeral Home of Petoskey.   The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10am until the time of service.
