Ray Speltz, age 83, of Boyne City entered into God’s eternal home on Tuesday, Sept 5, 2023, surrounded by his family.
Ray embodied the good God instilled on this earth; kindness, grace, love of family, nurturing of the land, patriotism, and dedication to Boyne City Athletics.
He was born on July 26, 1940 to Theodore and Mildred (Reinhardt) Speltz in Boyne City where he grew up on his father’s farm, the land of which he so passionately cared for throughout his life. Ray graduated from Boyne City High School in 1958 and joined the U.S. Army shortly thereafter, serving in both Vietnam and South Korea. His patriotism continuously shined through his active involvement in the American Legion. He also held a longstanding career and retired in 2006, as custodian of Boyne City High School.
A man with many skills and passions including building, fishing, hunting, masonry, and farming. His love of which were instilled in his children and grandchildren.
His love of God and commitment to serving the Lord led Ray to build a beautiful family, of which he valued each of his roles as husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle greatly.
Ray married Irene White on Sept 23, 1967 and raised a son and daughter in the Boyne area.
Son, Matthew (Peg Vondra) and Daughter, Merri (Chris Emery). Grandchildren, Adam Vondra-Speltz, Amanda (Alex) Branim, Noah and Jacob Vondra-Speltz, Raymond and Anthony Emery. His sister, Lucille (Speltz) Sawinski, of Rockford, MI and her four children, Jeffery, Gail (Crapsey), David, and Karen Sawinski. Ray loved and cared for each of his nieces and nephews as his own, making sure the family farm was a home for everyone.
Visitation will be held Sunday, September 10th from 5:00-8:00pm with a Rosary beginning at 7:30pm at Stackus Funeral Home, 417 Elm St, Boyne City and funeral service Monday 11:00 at St. Matthews Church, 1303 Boyne Ave, Boyne City.
