Raymond "Ray" Swadling Obituary

After living an incredibly full and adventurous life, Raymond “Ray” Swadling, of Alanson Mi., peacefully, and joyfully entered into the presence of his Savior April 8, 2021.

Ray’s legendary life was defined by integrity, honor, laughter, family and strength.

The son of Lloyd Swadling and Dorothy Lowsinger, Ray was born January 9, 1935 in Harbor Spring, Mi. where he grew up on a primitive farm with his siblings Rosalie, Lloyd Jr., Deloras (Pethers), and Flossie (Schram).

A proud veteran, serving his country in the Air Force, Ray taught rescue and survival and served along side his lifelong, best friend and cousin, Paul Swadling. He was also proud to have worked 30 years as a Mill Wright at General Motors in Flint. He raised his family nearby in Clio, before retiring to Northern Michigan.

Ray was full of humor and wit, and was as stubborn as he was strong. He was fearless.  He was a craftsman, and a tradesman and had an outstanding work ethic. He loved fishing, listening to classic country music and watching the tigers games. He played in pool leagues, and Euchre tournaments. He was a talker and a jokester, a fixer and a builder. He was a helper and a friend. Ray had a genuine heart, a contagious laughter and a story for absolute everything.

Ray had a fierce love for his family and was incredibly proud of his children, Stephen (Andrea), Shari (Don) Adams, Raymond (Patti), Robert,  And of his better half, Bette Swadling, faithful wife of 64 years

He has 12 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren as well as countless nieces and nephews, cousins and friends to carry on his amazing stories. He was loved. He was admired and he was well respected.

Ray impacted countless lives. He leaves an untouchable legacy behind on this earth, as he dances today in Heaven.
