Richard Freeland Obituary

Loving husband, father, and grandfather, Richard LaVerne Freeland, 93, of Petoskey, Michigan passed away on May 4, 2022, at Independence Village, in Petoskey.

Son of Harold and Clara (Davis) Freeland, Richard was born on August 12, 1928 in Jackson, Michigan. He grew up in Jackson and moved to Ann Arbor Michigan where he attended Ann Arbor Pioneer school and graduated in 1947.

On May 24, 1952, he married Catherine Anna O’Reilly in Ann Arbor where they lived together until retiring to Petoskey.

Richard was in the army from 1947 to 1948 and was stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Richard was very active in electrical Union 252. While with the union he served on the Entertainment Board, Arbitration Board in 1968, and was vice president and president of Local Union 252 on the Executive Board.

When he was younger, Richard enjoyed fishing and golfing. He was always a fan of Michigan football, and traveling with his wife to Alaska, Ireland, Hawaii, and Rose Bowl.

Richard is survived by his daughter Patricia Gullon; granddaughter Courtney Gullon; and brother Robert Freeland.

He is preceded in death by his wife Catherine O’Reilly Freeland; and his siblings: Jack, Donald, and Greta (Born) Freeland.

Those wishing to make a charitable donation in Richard’s memory are asked to consider the American Cancer Society and Hospice of Petoskey.

A funeral service for Richard will be officiated by Father Greg McCallum on May 11, 2022, at 12:00 PM at Stone Funeral Home. A visitation will begin at 11:00 AM.
