Richard Mosciski Obituary

Richard George Mosciski, 77, passed away at Petoskey, Michigan, on Monday July 26th, 2021, after a brief illness. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Flint, Michigan, on August 25th at 10:00 am, with burial to follow at New Calvary Cemetery; Rev. Father Anthony Strouse will officiate. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Bonita Springs Concert Band Scholarship Fund.

Richard was born August 8th, 1943, at St. Joseph Hospital, Flint, Ml, to Paul and Nancy (Gilbaga) Mosciski. He attended St. Agnes School in Flint graduating in 1960, then Western Michigan University graduating with a bachelor of arts, finishing with a master's of arts from University of Michigan. On June 18th, 2004, Richard married Louella Elya at St. Pius X Church in Flint, Ml, in the presence of many members of their families, many friends and both of their fathers.

For over 31 years, Richard shared his love of music as a choral and band director in the Lapeer, Lakeville, and Byron Schools. The majority of his career was spent in the Byron School District teaching grades 5 through 12, where the high school band grew to 105 students. The high school band played for football games, parades, and concerts. Band members also participated in Solo and Ensemble and festivals often receiving number one ratings. The band traveled to Traverse City Cherry Festival, Cedar Point, U of M Band Day, Detroit Thanksgiving Day Parade, Disney World, MSU Band Day, and Canada's Wonderland.

Richard loved fishing with his buddies, gardening, golfing, traveling, and after retirement continued his love of music by giving music lesson over the phone to his great nieces and nephews. He was a charter member of the Bonita Springs Concert Band in FL, and in summer he played with the Harbor Springs Concert Band in Ml. His favorite two instruments were the clarinet and the saxophone.

He also served as President of the Spring Creek Village Homeowners Association facilitating the purchase of the village by the stock holders.

Left to remember Richard with love are his wife Louella (Elya) Mosciski of Bonita Springs, FL, his sister Carol (Mosciski) Miller, Notre Dame, IN, and Louella's sister Linda (Richard) Cassar. Richard was a loving uncle, great uncle, and great great uncle, and will be sadly missed by all his family and many friends. His extended band family has truly touched our hearts with their outpouring of fond remembrances.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Nancy Mosciski, his brother Paul J. Mosciski, brother-in-law Robert Miller, and his nephews Matthew Mosciski and Michael Miller.
