Richard F. Taylor of Harbor Springs passed away suddenly at his home on May 24, 2026. Richard was born January 29, 1940, in Detroit, to F. Milton Taylor and Dorothy (Huston) Taylor. He grew up in the Detroit area, attended Birmingham High School, and went on to graduate from Northwestern University and received an MBA from the University of Michigan.
On February 5, 1965, he married Linda S. Hahn, and the couple made their home in Birmingham before moving to Harbor Springs in 1995. There, they would turn what was once a one-room family cabin with no running water into their permanent home, complete with frog ponds and beautiful garden beds that they would tend to with great care and pride and were always commented upon by visitors.
Over the course of his life, Richard was an avid birder, traveler, and dedicated father and grandfather (alias “‘crafty’ grandpa”). He was deeply passionate about the outdoors, and a committed philanthropist to various conservation-related causes.
He and Linda made their way to six out of the seven continents (Antarctica being the one exception), making significant progress on their birding life list. He continued travelling well into his 80s with his children, grandchildren and friends and made various snowbird trips down to Corpus Christi with lifelong friend John Shreves for the last few years of his life.
He enjoyed a good game of cards (or marbles), afternoons spent watching basketball, golf, Pardon the Interruption or Around the Horn (canceled too soon…). He loved a good quip, a good story, and a good bowl of ice cream to cap off the night.
Richard is survived by son Brent of Indian River, MI; daughter Trisha (partner David) of Edina, MN; granddaughters Camryn and Ava; grandson Tyler; and sister-in-law Kathryn Dugall (James) of Foley, AL. Also surviving are the many friends, from northern Michigan and across various corners of the world, that Richard made over the course of his life.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda. Also, by the family’s various canine companions, including Annie (“Annie Fannie”), Roxie, Frank, Jack, and Spritze.
